The history of the Campo Grande Garden in Lisbon begins in the 19th century. In the mid 20th century, more precisely, in 1945, it was laid out in the spirit of a new concept, such as to turn the former venue into a place where all visitors can keep themselves busy while having a good time. Thus, the large Campo Grande Garden is dotted with picnic areas, kids’ playgrounds, sports facilities, a restaurant and even a shopping mall.
However, the main attraction is the lake where tourists can rent boats. There are three notable statues in the Campo Grande Garden: one rendering King Afonso Henriques, one depicting King Joao I, and the other one representing humorist Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro.
The bottom line is, despite the fact the Campo Grande Garden does not excel in the floral asset, it is a peaceful refuge where visitors can indulge in pleasant pastimes and a top choice for spending time in one of Lisbon’s parks.
